More health problems for asbestos victims?
Researchers at the University of Missouri have discovered a possible link between asbestos and autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
It is well-documented that asbestos exposure leads to fatal diseases such as asbestosis and mesothelioma, but this new information raises even more questions about health problems related to asbestos. There is currently an effort afoot in Congress to pass a bill that would bail out asbestos companies and their insurers by creating an inadequate trust fund for asbestos victims and take away their right to sue companies that knowingly exposed them to asbestos for decades.
The asbestos epidemic should be considered a health problem, not a financial one. Any solution to the asbestos epidemic, be it litigation, a trust fund, or a combination of the two, must help everyone hurt by asbestos.
my mother passed away from this horrible disease, although doctors didn't want to put it on paper, at. we were all raised in a family business from our birth until we grew up. when my mother passed away, we, all 5 of her children had chest x-rays to make sure we didn't have any signs. we were all clear(09-08). Than my brother age 54 went to his doctor to get a refill on a prescription and mentioned that his chest was hurting, from getting in a minor bike accident, the doctor took x-rays of his chest to make sure he didn't fracture any ribs, and suspicious masses were noted in his right lung, they immediately hospitalized him, did ,mri with contrast, blood word, biopsy and results came back ,mesothelioma. (06-09) 4th stage , given less that 1 year to live. Doctors in our area told him doom and gloom. within 2 week we , all my brothers and sister flew to Boston to Brighams hospital where a Dr Sugarbaker specializes in this disease and is treating my brother in hopes of doing a surgical procedure to extend his life. My brother before this dignosis was a very healthy 54 year old man,and now he is dieing a slow painful debilitating death, which we watch our mother die from just 8 months ago.
