Baltimore Bans Toxic Jewelry Because Feds Won't
A survey this month by Baltimore City Health Commisioner, Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, found that 4 out of 17 samples of children's jewelry sold at area stores had dangerously high levels of lead. At a news conference yesterday, Sharfstein had this to say:
"The fact that we keep finding lead in these products, despite the fact that it's unsafe, is a clear sign that the federal regulation has failed."Baltimore's new regulation will ban the sale of any jewelry found to exceed the federal limit of 600 parts per million of lead. [Baltimore Sun]
