Got Bats - or Mosquitoes and Encephalitis?
About bats, mosquitoes and encephalitis, "Carnac the Magnificent" (the Johnny Carson character) might say: "What are three things that are affecting my property value?"Pretty sunset.
Entertaining bats.
No mosquitoes.
Good company.
After inspecting some important hibernation locations, the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection revealed that 80 to 90 percent of the bats have died this past winter from White Nose Syndrome. [CT DEP]

That's so sad! We still have bats in our trees and they really do make a difference. Hopefully it's all cyclical and they come back in droves for you.
I think bats are wonderful - helped a baby bat grow until it was ready to fly with its buddies while living in Florida. Now, in California, the bats fly around and swoop down to tap the flying frisbees. I hope your bat colony grows strong and healthy.
Re mosquitos - I use Orange Guard sprayed around the yard and on my clothing. Mosquitos stay away from me, and the spray is natural citrus - safe for people and pets. Ants have stayed away for two years from one spray each year. Moths stay out of my clothes closet with a spray around the door.
If you take B Vitamins, bugs don't bite - they are repelled by the smell on our skin. Nothing like being healthy and repelling bugs naturally.
