Listen up: EWG's Jane Houlihan talks BPA on FOX News
Since the U.S. Food & Drug Administration expressed "some concern" about BPA last week ('bout time), more and more people are wondering whether they should be concerned about it, how they're exposed, and how to avoid it?
Of course, you can check our Tips to Avoid BPA here on Enviroblog, but why not sit back, relax, and hear it straight from EWG's Director of Research, Jane Houlihan? You'll get the picture in a mere 4 minutes:
So glad to hear this interview. I often write about BPA on my blog and worry about all the toxic chemicals already in the environment. As the EPA tries to regulate, not review, but REGULATE, chemicals in existence, it needs our support. Where to I sign up for this campaign?
Don't hold your breath if you think the f.d.a will do anything to protest us
Does EWG have suggestions for how we are to dispose of items we know contain BPA or any other toxin(s). Won't sending items to a landfill eventually result in contamination of soil and leach back into our water sources? Thank you.
Alexandra, Excellent point. Congress and federal agencies need our support to move ahead with stronger laws and regulations. We welcome you to join our grassroots work to support TSCA reform by introducing and passing the Kid-Safe Chemicals Act. You can start by signing our petition to protect kids (http://bit.ly/DKJ4W), host a house party, spread the word on your social networks, write a LTE in your local paper, meet with your representatives in Congress when they are in their local offices (or their staff when they are in DC). You'll find info on these (and other) options n our Kid-Safe Chemicals Act action page: http://bit.ly/54hb1y. And let us know how it goes!
Krisanne, Good question. Often refuse disposal has very local guidance, depending on what type of landfills you have (how well lined, haz waste) and what kind of recycling programs. I'm sorry not to be more specific, but contacting your local hauler/government recycling/household haz waste office is your best bet. The US EPA has some info on proper disposal of HH haz waste if that is helpful: http://www.epa.gov/waste/conserve/materials/hhw.htm. They, too, recommend contacting your local waste agency. Let us know what you find out!
while our government is trying to work this out.. you may want to do what I'm doing. I discovered how to rid my body of the polutants/toxins that we are bombarded with everyday. It's best explained by watching this short video. After I personally had tremendous results 2 years ago, I joined the company as an associate. My weight is still off and I've never felt better. Why isn't this on the news!
